Opening Day at Breck

Low temperatures on Tuesday evening and into early Wednesday morning allowed snowmakers to crank production in preparation for the big day.

Opening Day 2017 began with a hint of alpenglow on the mountains of Summit County as the ski and ride community from near and far prepared to hit the slopes.

Eager skiers and riders arrived at the base of Peak 8 and hopped in line for the Colorado Superchair. Gooey cinnamon buns kept the ambitious mountain-goers full and fueled for their first tracks. Sunshine reached the snow on the freshly groomed Springmeier trail while DJ DC spun energetic tracks that got everyone within earshot moving and grooving. Athletes of all ages dotted the mountainside. Two veterans were honored during opening remarks and rode first chair with Breck's Chief Operating Officer John Buhler.

Selfies were snapped, smiles were shared, and firsts were celebrated. I celebrated my first Opening Day as part of the Breck team by interacting with equally stoked guests all morning. I asked them what "first of the season" they were most excited for. Several couldn't wait for their first float on powder, while others were most excited for their first face-sized cinnamon roll.

Take a peek at those answers and how we kicked off the #First30 in this video, shot 100% on GoPro.

After a successful day, it was time for some aprés-ski. Friends and families retired to TBar to try some new menu items or opted to sip a cold brew on the sunny patio of Ski Hill Grill.

We're jazzed about the first 30 days of the season at Breck.
